(Posted on 29/04/19)UCML were appointed to coordinate utilities for a business centre based at an iconic Swan Hunter ship yard in Wallsend, North Tyneside. The £1.9 million ‘Swans Centre for Innovation’ provides a base for small and medium sized business who specialise in engineering, marine, oil, gas, and offshore renewable energy industries. The centre includes 10 office units, meeting and conference rooms, and other facilities with super-fast broadband. The centre is part of a wider £100m project to redevelop the Swan Hunter shipyard. UCML’s involvement included designing new high-voltage electricity, water and gas infrastructure for the development. UCML also diverted existing privately-owned networks which were found to be on site. Due to the nature of the site, UCML had to liaise with the local authority due to security restrictions of the shipyard. Despite this, UCML were successful in delivering the work in keeping with project timescales.
