UCML were appointed for their services on a residential scheme for Macbryde Homes, named Oakley Park. The brand-new development consists of 184 modern dwellings in which UCML coordinated and project managed utilities of electricity, gas, water and telecoms. On appointment, an initial review revealed a live substation on the proposed site which may have proved problematic for the development. UCML however, coordinated the removal of the equipment which was owned by Scottish Power. This allowed the client to go ahead and demolish the substation to make way for the new homes.
Further to their review, UCML also found that a medium pressure gas main intruded the site. From inspection, UCML held extensive discussions and communications with the incumbent utility providers regarding equipment that ran into and through the site, and the requirement for any diversions associated with S278w. UCML’s early involvement provided cost certainty and allowed the procurement and management of these works to be built into the construction programme. Through a competitive tender process UCML provided the client with a substantial saving from the initial outline budget. Oakley Park is now ready to welcome home buyers and offers beautiful 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes eligible for the ‘help to buy’ scheme.
